Title: Senior Manager and Managing Director, Credit
Reports to: President & C.E.O.
Supervises: Manager, Loan Processing; Mortgage Administrator; Loan Officers; Collection Supervisor.

JOB FUNCTION:
To manage and direct the overall lending and collection functions of the credit union in accordance with the Credit Union’s Act, DICO By-laws and the Credit Union’s By-laws and policies; grants mortgages, personal loans, lines of credit and small medium size business loans within approved lending limits; monitors all lending activity and regularly reviews the performance of the department; initiates action to improve the growth and development of the loan portfolio; pursues new commercial and syndicated lending business; department operating budget.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Personnel:
Supervise employee team by:
- Setting annual performance goals for direct reports along with development needs;
- Conducting performance reviews for direct reports ensuring that deficient performance areas have corrective action agreed to’
- Establish organizational growth targets by product, industry mix, revenue for all branches and employee levels;
- Following up on audit findings with the department staff.
Financial Performance of the Credit Union:
1. Serve, guide and offer recommendations as an active participant of the Asset Liability Committee.
2. Participates as a member of the Senior Management Team in the strategic planning process for the credit union.
3. Reviews and approves annual budget submissions and requests of direct and indirect reports.
Lending:
Responsible for the overall lending and collection functions ensuring compliance with all regulations, by-laws, policies and procedures.
- Responsible for developing standards for member service within the department and ensuring these standards are adhered to.
- Oversees the delinquency control systems to ensure quick identification of delinquent accounts and recommends the necessary expense allocation to maintain the loan allowance reserve fund in accordance with DICO By-laws.
- Approves credit within individual limits and credit above individual lending officers’ limits in conjunction with other officers of the credit union according to policy.
- Reviews rejected loan applications to ensure consistent and proper evaluation.
- Develops the small-medium size business and syndication lending portfolios utilizing consulting services as required.
- Reports minimum monthly lending activity to the President & CEO.
- Recommends and assigns lending limits to all credit granting staff.
- Reviews and recommends annual write-offs
- Develops lending sales plans to improve performance, volume efficiency as it related to loan spreads and incremental relationship and revenue opportunities.
Training
- Ensures proper training and development in all lending products and services;
- Annually assists in the development of a personalized training plan for employees as it relates to lending “gaps” and developing areas for growth.
Policies and Procedures
- Responsible for the development, review and update of lending policies and procedures.
- Ensures adherence to all operating policies, procedures, collective agreement and certification standards by monitoring and initiating action to rectify problem areas.
Alliances
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of strong relationships with Union Insurance Services (CUIS).
Other
- Attends annual general meeting of the credit union.
- Other duties as assigned by the President and C.E.O.
Qualifications for Recruitment:
- Canadian university degree or Credit Granting courses with emphasis on finance and investments;
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Power Point and Word;
- Eight years progressive experience with a financial institution, ideally with a Credit Union;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with all levels of staff with the Credit Union, as well as customers and suppliers.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks within tight timelines under pressure.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate problems and provide resolutions.
- Innovative and creative problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of the Polish language an asset
